With the start of the film studies program with a specialization in screenwriting, directing and creative producing in 2002, ifs internationale filmschule köln has transformed itself from a mere further education school for film and TV professionals to a full study and further education institution serving both those just making their first steps in the film world and experienced professionals aiming to gain further qualifications. 

A franchise contract concluded with the University of Applied Sciences in Cologne has made it possible to offer the students of ifs an internationally acclaimed academic degree. Within the framework of this contract, the film studies program at ifs has become recognized as a B.A. in Film Studies since the summer of 2004. This has made ifs internationale filmschule köln the first publicly funded film school in Germany to offer the international “Bachelor of Arts” degree.

Small numbers of students and intensive supervision in an exciting atmosphere of experimentation and creativity are the outstanding factors that mark the in total 4 study programs and 10 further education programs (from Mobile Animation Content to Costume Design, from Make-up and Film Editing to Acting and Set Design). The synthesis between theoretical and practical education, a tight collaboration and network between the study and further education programs in particular projects, and a connection to socially relevant disciplines are characteristics that decisively shape the concept on which ifs is built.
