Marianne Wendt is a Berlin-based creator, screenwriter, and showrunner for TV series and feature films. She believes in the power of teamwork and writes either in a duo with her co-writer Christian Schiller, in varying teams, or in the writers’ room. After studying architecture in Munich and Berlin and theatre directing in Hamburg she worked as a dramaturge at Deutsches Theater Berlin and as freelance director in various state and city theaters in Germany and Poland. 2006 she took part in the »Fiction Producer TV Course« at ISFF Berlin. In 2007 she participated in the screenwriting programme »Drehbuchwerkstatt München« (HFF Munich) and was awarded with the Tankred-Dorst-Drehbuch-Prize for best screenplay.
From 2013 to 2018, Marianne Wendt was head writer for the ZDF crime series »Letzte Spur Berlin«. Her two-part historical drama »Reformation« about Martin Luther was screened in October 2017 on BBC Four and German public television (ZDF), the six-part drama series »Eden« (SWR/Arte France, co-created by Marianne Wendt) premiered in the official competition of Series Mania in Lille in 2019. It was nominated for Prix Europa 2019, and won the Grimme Preis 2020. Her ten-part documentary podcast series »The Suitcase from No Man's Land« premiered on SWR2 in autumn 2019 and was also nominated for the Prix Europa. »Irish Crime Series« (4x90 min, ARD/Degeto, created and written by Marianne Wendt and Christian Schiller) premiered in 2020.
Since 2019, Marianne has been working as creator and showrunner on the 8-part drama series »Neumatt (New Heights)« for Swiss television/Netflix, which was shown at Series Mania in Lille 2021 as a forum exclusive, premiered in Zurich Film Festival 2021, and is the first Swiss series to be listed on Netflix in 190 countries and available in 30 languages. Currently Season 2 is in postproduction and she is developing Season 3.
