On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the ifs presents a #ifsfilmderwoche online every Tuesday.
»Grummet« (2014) is the 24th film in the series and graduation film by Sonja Keßler, now Sonja Paetz (director), Sandra Schröder (screenplay), Jenny Lorenz (production), Christophe Poulles (camera), Leo Hoffmann (Editing), Alexander Jarosch (VFX) and Jannika Eberhardt (VFX). The drama, funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, won the »Best Foreign Film« award at the California Women’s Film Festival 2017 and was nominated there and at the Ouchy Film Award 2016 in the category Best Director. It celebrated its premiere at the Max Ophüls Prize film festival.
During the First World War, 45-year-old Marga (Jenny Schilly) struggles for daily survival. When 12-year-old Hans (Joshua Fröhlich) follows her constantly, a serious accident occurs in which the boy loses his leg. Marga starts to take care of Hans and a tender friendship develops. But then the older brother of Hans appears …
Director Sonja Paetz
Sonja Paetz studied directing in the bachelor’s program in film at the ifs and graduated in 2016. In 2019 she worked as a producer on the Max Ophüls Prize winner and ifs graduate film »Label me«. In addition to various teaching assignments, she is currently working on her debut book for young people.
Screenwriter Sandra Schröder
Sandra Schröder also studied screenplay in the 6th year of the BA Film at the ifs. Since 2015 she was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and studied directing from 2016 to 2018 in the Master’s program at the Hamburg Media School. Since 2018 she has been working as a freelance screenwriter and director.
Director of Photography Christophe Poulles
Christophe Poulles, also in his 6th year, studied camera at the ifs. As Director of Photography he is mainly active in the field of documentary film. His works include »Compass«, »Art? For passengers?« as well as commercials for Lidl.
Editor Leo Hoffmann
Leo Hoffmann studied Editing Bild & Ton in the 6th year of the BA Film at the ifs and finished his studies in 2016.
Visual Artist Jannika Eberhardt
Jannika Eberhardt studied Visual Arts at the ifs and graduated in 2016. Afterwards she studied Computer Engineering at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hannover, where she is currently completing her Master of Science.
Production Designer Markus Schütz
Scene designer Markus Schütz completed the further training scene design at the ifs. Since then he has been working as art director for »Babylon Berlin«, »Lauras Stern« and »Little America«, among others.
