ifs-film of the week: Beat Beat Heart

On the occasion of its 20th anniversary the ifs presents a #ifsfilmderwoche online every Tuesday.

»Beat Beat Heart« (2016) is the 26th film in the series and graduation film Luise Brinkmann (director, screenplay, production), Olivia Charamsa (production), Mathis Hanspach (camera), Maren Unterbruger (editing, sound design), Christoph Willerscheidt (VFX). The feature film, which is funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW, was awarded the special prize for ensemble spirit and energy »Förderpreis Neues Deutsches Kino« at the Munich 2016 Film Festival and was nominated for the »FIPRESCI Prize«. In addition, the film was screened at the Filmfestival Max Ophüls Preis 2017 and the Filmfestival Cologne 2016, among others.

A playful romantic (Lana Cooper) has been actively waiting for the return of her great love for months – when suddenly her newly separated mother (Saskia Vester) moves in with her midlife crisis and confronts her with new-fashioned love concepts and wisdom in the course of her self-discovery.

Director and Scriptwriter Luise Brinkmann
Luise Brinkmann studied Directing in the 7th year of the bachelor program in film at the ifs and graduated in 2016. After her graduation she shot among others the film »Auf und Ableben«, which she presented in 2020. She is a participant in the Into-The-Wild mentoring program and is currently developing two new feature film projects as well as a series and coaching actors and directors in improvisation for film.

Producer Olivia Charamsa
Olivia Charamsa studied Creative Production also in the 7th year of the BA Film at the ifs. After graduating in 2016, she worked as production manager and 1st production manager at private television for TV reports and show formats. Shortly she will start working as a producer and participate in the development of a German series.

Director of Photography Mathis Hanspach
Mathis Hanspach studied Director of Photography at the ifs and graduated in 2016. Afterwards he shot his second feature film »Alle in einem Boot« and the medium-length »Auf und Ableben« (Up and Down) in addition to short films and worked on several feature-length films. He works in both feature and documentary film. He also has a degree in design and is active as a lecturer, photographer and laughter yoga trainer.

Editor & Sound Designer Maren Unterburger
Maren Unterburger also studied Editing Picture & Sound in the 7th year of the BA Film at the ifs. Since graduating, she has worked as a film and series editor in Munich. She has worked on the Netflix production »Betonrausch«, the comedy TV series »Blockbustaz« and TV feature films such as »Katie Fforde – Ein Haus am Meer«. In 2020 she took over the editing of the cinema thriller »Ich kauf mir deine Angst« (AT) and the ARD fairy tale »Das Märchen vom goldenen Taler«.

VFX Artist Christoph Willerscheidt
Christoph Willerscheidt studied VFX at the ifs and also graduated in 2016.
