ifs-film of the week: Promise


On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the ifs presents a #ifsfilmderwoche online every Tuesday.

»Promise« (2018) from the 3rd semester is a documentary film by Bünyamin Musullu (Director), Charly Hoffmann (Producer), Malte Hafner (DoP), Jelena Lützel (Sound) and Maximilian Rodegra (Editing). »Promise« was awarded the audience award »Kölner Fenster« at the Short Film Festival Cologne, won the prize for the best documentary film at the Int. Festival of Film in Tetouan Morocco and was nominated for the »Golden Key« at the Documentary Film Festival Kassel.

Shopping, doing the laundry, talking to adults: The 10-year-old Promise doesn’t often have the opportunity to be a child. He lives in a hotel in Cologne with his mother, his siblings and many other refugees. With a camera, the boy roams through the corridors and rooms and gets a picture of this bizarre, new world.

Director Bünyamin Musullu
Bünyamin Musullu studied directing in the bachelor’s program in film at the ifs and graduated in 2018. He is currently working on the development of his debut “Das Opferfest”, for which he received screenplay funding from the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW in the summer.

Producer Charly Hoffmann
Charly Hoffmann also studied Creative Producing in the BA Film at the ifs. Since March 2019 he is working as a producer at itv Studios Germany.

Director of Photography Malte Hafner
Malte Hafner studied camera at the ifs.

Sound Designer Jelena Lützel
Jelena Annabelle Lützel studied screenwriting at the ifs and graduated in 2018. From 2018 to 2019 she studied a master in filmmaking in London. Since her graduation she has been working as a freelance filmmaker. In 2020 she also founded the Kingston Film Festival.

Editor Maximilian Rodegra
Maximilian Rodegra also studied Editing Picture & Sound in the 7th year of the BA Film at the ifs.
