On the occasion of its 20th anniversary the ifs presents a #ifsfilmderwoche online every Tuesday.
The graduation film »The Colour« (2018) by Cem Karayakas (director, animation), Jelena Lützel (screenplay), Manuel Zilleken (production), Christian Godau (camera), Maria Hartig (editing & sound design), Nils Nißing (CGI) and Jan Zinn (production design) is the 33rd film in the series. The science fiction animated film celebrated its premiere in 2019 at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, USA and was shown in Kazakhstan at the BASTAU Int. Student and Debut Film Festival Almaty.
»The Colour« shows the old man Ammi writing a letter to his old friend, whose disappearance he could not comprehend for many years. Finally, a supernatural power in the form of a color begins to take over his hut and confronts him with that horror of the past.
Director and Animation Artist Cem Karayakas
Cem Karayakas studied Digital Film Arts at the ifs and completed his Bachelor’s degree in 2018. Afterwards he worked as a 2D and 3D animator and as an animation producer. Currently he is studying animation in the Master Animation Program at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Screenwriter Jelena Lützel
Jelena Annabelle Lützel studied screenplay at the ifs in BA Film and graduated in 2018. From 2018 to 2019 she completed a master’s degree in filmmaking in London. Since her graduation she has been working as a freelance filmmaker. In 2020 she also founded the Kingston Film Festival.
Producer Manuel Zilleken
Manuel Zilleken completed his film studies with a focus on creative production also in 2018. He then started as a producer at TWENTY TWO Film GmbH in Cologne. There he is currently working on the development of the animation series »Kira & Prokki«, which was funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW in 2019.
Director of Photography Christian Godau
Christian Godau studied camera in BA Film at the ifs. Since graduating in 2018 he has been working as a freelance cameraman for fiction, commercials and music videos.
Editor and Sound Designer Maria Hartig
Maria Hartig also studied Editing Bild & Ton in the 7th year of the BA Film. Since graduating in 2018, she has worked as a freelance editor and, in the meantime, as a permanent assistant editor at Gruppe 5 Filmproduktion. Since October 2020 she has been working as an editor at TWENTY TWO Film GmbH.
CGI Supervisor Nils Nißing
Nils Nißing studied Digital Film Arts in the same year. Since his graduation in 2018 he works as CGI Artist at RISE.
Production Designer Jan Zinn
Jan Zinn studied set design in the 8th year of the BA Film at the ifs and graduated in 2020.
