The director and screenwriter Felix Hassenfratz (*1981) worked as an assistant director and set photographer for Romuald Karmakar and others after graduating from high school. From 2004 to 2007 he studied film directing at the International Film School Cologne. In 2010-2011 he returned to the ifs for the Masterclass Screenplay in the Autor:innenwerkstatt.

His graduation film DER VERDACHT was awarded the German Short Film Award and the Studio Hamburg Young Talent Award, among others. The film was shown at film festivals in Montréal, Palm Springs, Buenos Aires and St. Petersburg.

After graduating, worked as a freelance director and screenwriter - for feature films and documentaries as well as television formats, including children's and youth programmes. Regular work as a lecturer at film schools and in media work for children and young people.

His films have won several awards and received attention at international festivals. The four-part documentary series SCHNITZELJAGD IM HEILIGEN LAND received a Grimme Award in the category Children & Youth Programme.

The feature film VERLORENE, a radical anti-homeland film, premiered at the 68th Berlinale 2018 and was awarded the MFG Star, Best Debut at the Biberach Film Festival, the H.W. Geißendörfer Screenplay Award and the NDR Film Award, among others, and received numerous nominations.

Felix Hassenfratz is a member of the German Film Academy, the Association for Film and Television Dramaturgy and a jury member of the German Short Film Award (BKM).

In spring 2019, he was a scholarship holder at Villa Aurora Los Angeles. Felix Hassenfratz is currently preparing his second feature film FRIEDA - KALTER KRIEG, which was nominated for the German Screenplay Award in 2022.
