As a director and writer, I want to achieve the fine line between easily accessible entertainment and the negotiation of relevant social issues and political structures. I believe in the power of comedy and lightness to approach heavy and complex subject matter. In my view, this can only succeed if you really take a topic and its conflict seriously, don't just abuse it as a pose or effect, and always try to draw the comedy from the characters and their human dilemmas. Then films or series for a broad audience can be created that are fun and at the same time open up a space in which viewers can critically engage with the world. Because only when we as a society deal with the pressing issues of our time can we find answers together and solve the problems - as in filmmaking - collectively.
