As a child of former refugees from Vietnam and a native Berliner, I have been moving between two cultures my whole life. It is rather a field of tension between cultures - a third, invisible space. Impossible? I refer to spaghetti with fish sauce or my cousin named Thomas. Traces of invisible experiences, worlds and stories are everywhere. As a director, I have acquired the ability to see them and make them visible as films. For marginalised people, visibility is vital: in the year of my birth, a dormitory burns in Rostock, in the year of my graduation, innocent people die in Hanau. Under this influence, my artistic work strives for representation, empowerment and the challenge of normative habits of seeing.
