Vita

Philipp Thomas completed his training as a media designer for image and sound in 2003 and began studying montage/editing at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2004. Since graduating in 2010, he has worked as a freelance editor specialising in feature films, commercials and trailer editing. While still a student, he won the German Camera Award in 2008 for the editing of the 64-minute feature film "Teenage Angst". (Best Newcomer Award for Editing). His graduation film "Das Lied in mir" won numerous awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at the World Film Festival in Montréal in 2010, and two German Film Awards in 2011. The short film he edited, "Von Hunden und Pferden" (Of Dogs and Horses), received the German Short Film Award in Gold in 2011, and the Student Oscar in Silver in 2012, among others. The film "Berlin Alexanderplatz" ran in competition at the 70th Berlinale and, with 11 nominations, was one of the favourites for the German Film Prize 2020. It won, among others, the Silver Lola for Best Film, as previously did the film "Herbert" in 2016. The "Albanian Virgin" celebrated its world premiere at the Warsaw Film Festival in 2022 and received 2 prizes there. His current project is the montage of the film "Cuckoo" directed by Tilman Singer. Philipp Thomas is a member of the Bundesverband Filmschnitt Editor e.V. (BFS).
