Uli M Schueppel studied directing at the German Film and Television Academy, Berlin (DFFB). In addition to a few short films, several music videos (e.g. for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Anton Newcombe, Einstürzende Neubauten...), also animations (e.g.: Berlinale-Trailer/Opener since 2001, Delphi-Verleih & DFFB-Opener), he has created 15 feature-length films as author, director, producer and occasionally also as cinematographer, which move between the genres of feature film, essay film, music film and documentary film (see filmography).

He received the "Special Jury Award" (Montreal 88), the "OCIC"-Award 1993, the "NewBerlinFilmAward 2008", as well as the "Underground Spirit Award" of the European Film Festival (Palic) in 2009 for his "exceptional achievement within independent film production", as well as the "Lifetime Award" at the 5th SPFF (Int. Music Documentary Film Festival, Croatia) in 2014 "for special achievements in music documentary film and its industry".

In 2006 Schueppel also started working in the field of media art (video installations & photography) and has since exhibited his projects in various national & international exhibitions. His works have already been shown in important museums and art events worldwide, including 'MOMA'-New York, 'ICA'-London, 'Louvre'-Paris, 'Haus der Kunst'-Munich, 'Singapore Art Museum', 'Museum of Contemporary Art, Bucharest' or
the 'Documenta14'-Kassel.

Work shows and retrospectives of his complete filmography were organized in the Greek Cinematheka, Athens (in coop. with Goethe-Inst.), in the Festival "Internacional de Cine" (Mar del Plata, Argentina), as well as in the "European Film Festival" (Palic, Serbia).

Since 2003 Schueppel has also been a guest lecturer for Directing & Documentary Film at the German Film and Television Academy (DFFB) and the Nederlandse Filmacademie, Amsterdam. He has led several masterclass workshops on the topics of "Music Documentary", "Independent Filmmaking", or even "Digital Storytelling".
He has (co)curated several film festival programs and has been on the jury of international festivals.
Schueppel is part of the int. artist collective (photo/film) 'TEMPS ZERO'. Schueppel is a member of the EuropeanFilmAcademy (EFA) since 2002.
