news / Press release
On 21 March, the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln invites you to its »Open House« from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its campus in Köln-Mülheim, Schanzenstr. 28.
Guests can gain vivid insights into the programmes offered by ifs through portfolio reviews, workshops, open studios, discussions, and film screenings—ranging from bachelor’s degree specializations in Creative Producting, Directing, Director of Photography, Editing, Production Design, Screenwriting and VFX & Animation, to the master’s programmes in 3D Animation for Film and Games, Digital Narratives, Entertainment Producing, and Serial Storytelling.
Those interested can experience how directors work during a »Directing Workshop« with actors in the ifs studio. There, production design students have just built and designed a new set for the upcoming ifs film shoots: a multi-level courtyard of an aged Art Deco building with a stucco façade. For deeper insights into the work of the screenwriting department, attend the studio workshop »From Book to Film« with Prof. Magnus Vattrodt (German Television Award & Grimme Award for »Die Wannseekonferenz«) or a presentation on writing for the series »How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)«.
Students from the VFX & Animation programme will showcase their work on complex animations and visual effects. Visitors can watch students at work in the editing suites as they edit current film projects. In the cinema, film fans can watch recent and award-winning student short films—both live-action and animated—on the big screen. High-end equipment featuring the Dolby-licensed Atmos sound system ensures an outstanding audio experience. Those interested can see how a complex sound mix is created in post-production using award-winning short films as examples—and also discover the unusual tools used to create sound effects for films in the Foley workshop.
Visitors can get hands-on experience in the writing workshop, the camera workshop, or by testing VR experiences created by students in the MA Digital Narratives programme. Guests can see just how artfully reality is imitated in production design as they create rusty surfaces.
Graduates and students will discuss projects during their studies and career paths after graduation in moderated talks. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity at any time to get comprehensive information through personal conversations with professors, students, and staff. Waffles and drinks will be available throughout the event.
The detailed programme can be found here: www.filmschule.de.
