Seeking answers, she teams up with a migrant worker to uncover a conspiracy that may change the future of humanity.

SYNOPSIS

In a world on the brink of social and environmental collapse, computer programmer McKenzie, lead designer at the AI division of the corporate conglomerate Beyond INC., teams up with an idealistic migrant worker and a repentant police detective to try solving the mystery of her wife’s disappearance. What they eventually uncover, however, is the dark secret behind the company’s most ambitious project, the space colony of Omelas.

At the season’s climax, our protagonists discover that Beyond INC.’s space programme is nothing but a facade. Project Omelas is not a colony on Mars, but an artificial archipelago where a small percentage of Earth’s population will be selected to move to in order to survive the inevitable climate catastrophe. They are offered the option to be part of the programme, but instead choose to escape and vow to one day use their knowledge to bring Beyond INC. down.

Beyond INC. is a thriller set in a world we are, in many ways, already living in. It is not a “what-if” story, but, as American Sci-Fi writer Octavia Butler put it, a “if-this-goes-on” speculation. It will explore themes of humanity’s relationship with nature and technology; of inequality and control; of the different faces of power and utopia. But, most importantly, it will be a character-driven story about overcoming grief and learning to live on a dying planet.
