In ancient times, King Arthur fell to the schemes of his sister Morgan le Fay, and the world never healed from the rift. Now two sisters have an encounter with Merlin’s magic that gives them an opportunity to defeat Morgan – unless the same pattern of sibling betrayal catches up with them again.
SYNOPSIS
In long-ago Camelot, King Arthur is betrayed by his sister, the scheming witch Morgan le Fay. Despite the wizard Merlin's aid, Arthur is killed, and Morgan traps Merlin in an oak tree. Merlin has just enough time to magically hide Arthur’s sword Excalibur before Morgan can seize its power. She swears to find it and rule the world.
Time passes; Merlin’s oak is struck by lightning. A 17th century girl who's emigrating to the New World takes an acorn and plants it in Maine.
Fast forward to present day, when the newly-blended Wan-Lieber family is moving to Maine in what the parents hope will give their girls a fresh start. 18-year-old Olivia thinks 15-year-old Grace is a weird nerd; Grace thinks Olivia is a shallow jock. Grace's only confidante is her turtle Shellock Holmes, the last thing she has of her dead father. Olivia joins a coven with popular new school friends, while Grace befriends the next-door neighbor.
One day searching for a missing Shellock in the woods, the girls discover a trapped Merlin. He tells them that Morgan is close to finding Excalibur – and he needs their help to stop her. Grace jumps at the chance to go on a magical adventure, but Olivia realizes the witch she's sworn to is not only real, she's Merlin's nemesis. But the clock has already begun ticking, so Grace, Olivia, and their new friends must rush to get Excalibur first, or the consequences for their new home will be dire. Will they find it before Morgan, or will the witch destroy everything they love?
