Formal education: teacher training in history and French, author programme at the ifs, scholarship at the Drehbuchwerkstatt München, directing courses Mark Travis and Fred Johntz. Learned a lot about life: songwriter and guitarist in an internationally touring punk rock band, producer and executive producer in TV entertainment.
As author and head writer, he is responsible for the multi-award-winning, partly internationally successful comedies "Knallerfrauen" and "Rabenmütter" as well as the sitcom "Almania" for SWR/ARD Mediathek. Writing feature film and series scripts in various genres, from historical drama to mainstream comedy. His teaching activities include engagements in Beijing and Shanghai, the Austrian film.art Institute, the Grimme Akademie, as well as repeatedly and with great pleasure the ifs Cologne.
Elmar Freels has been awarded the German Television Prize and the German Comedy Prize and has been nominated for both prizes, some several times. His screenplay for the feature film "SOL-Summer of love" was awarded the Saar Screenplay Prize. His short films have won prizes at national and international festivals.
