JANIS WESTPHAL is a director, cinematographer, and creative producer based in Berlin and Cologne, with a passion for both documentary and feature films. His work ranges from social realism to poetic imagination, always searching for warmth in harsh situations and dignity in unexpected places. Prior to his studies at the ifs, he studied journalism, global history, and directing, the latter at the self-organised "filmArche" in Berlin. In 2018, he founded "SEVENPEAKS films", a small production company that, in addition to independent film projects, also carries out commissioned work for NGOs and non-profit companies. His films have been screened at numerous national and international festivals, have won many awards, and five of his productions have received substantial film funding. In addition to "Tiefe Sonne" and "Prințese", he is currently working on the feature-length documentary "Haus der Trinker", a long-term observation of a housing project for formerly homeless, alcoholic men in Berlin.
Janis Westphal completed his master's degree in "Film" at the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln in autumn 2025.
