Among the Mayans, the scribes were the saints who received the messages from heaven to write them down. The ancient Greeks believed in the divine muses who breathed artistic inspiration into them. Others say it rained imagination into them. I don't know where stories come from, but I see them everywhere. In my dreams, in the newspaper, on the street, inside me - stories are like ghosts I never called. But they are always there, as long as I can think. What has touched me once never lets me go. Good films are like stamps in our consciousness - and not infrequently they have changed or turned my life around. That's the kind of film you have to make.
