Vita

After graduating from high school, Julia Daschner studied film and television at the Kunsthochschule für Medien (KHM), where she photographed several award-winning short films. Following a semester abroad in Cuba, she successfully graduated with a feature-length documentary film, which she also directed.

Since 2008, she has been responsible for the cinematography of many award-winning feature films and documentaries, as well as several made-for-TV films. Since 2013, she has also been teaching at various German film schools, is involved in the Cinematographinnen e.V. network and is a member of the board of the German Film Academy for Cinematography/Camera.

To comprehend, touch, seduce, stir, and compose with images. To convey a mood, a feeling, or an entire story. To fill spaces with atmosphere through light and color, to determine the tonality of the film narrative through composition and framing, mise-en-scène, and optical resolution, and to always take responsibility for our attitude in all our decisions.
In the complex structure of film production, we need diplomacy, perseverance, subtlety, and foresight. I am very happy to help shape the teaching of cinematography at the ifs and to accompany the students on their journey.
