"My Scar: Martin Was a Prisoner in a Syrian Torture Prison" (WDR COSMO / Bildband Film & Fernsehproduktion) highlights the tale of woe of Martin, who works for an aid organization in the Middle East and is kidnapped by Syrian security forces - and eventually freed.
The jury's verdict: "The contribution very authentically traces the attempt to deprive a human being of his dignity. The protagonist, with recognizable trust in the authors, allows undisguised closeness without compromising journalistic distance. This is captivating and touching - but remains free of pathos. The design is reduced and thus allows the story the necessary space."
Nearly 800 programs from 20 EU states and Switzerland were represented in the competition for the CIVIS Media Prize. CIVIS is Europe's most important media prize for integration and cultural diversity. It has been awarded in various categories since 1988.
