European Showrunner Training at ifs announces Participants

Top writers from accross Europe to take part in Round 3

  • Start of the European Showrunner Training in Cologne with Head of Programme Jeppe Gjervig Gram (»Borgen«, »Follow the Money«) and with the experienced showrunners Marianne Wendt (»Wer wir sind«, »Neumatt«), Barbara Petronio (»Uonderboys/Wonderboys«, »Suburra – Blood on Rome«), and Philipp Käßbohrer & Matthias Murmann (»How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast)«, »King of Stonks«)
  • European Showrunner Think Tank as part of Seriencamp Cologne

In Cologne, the third year of the »European Showrunner Training« at ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln has started. In this unique training and mentoring programme for aspiring showrunners, experienced series creators expand their skills in core areas of showrunning, such as creative leadership and series production - with a focus on their future work as showrunners.
The professional training programme is part of the ifs’ »European Showrunner Programme«, which is funded by the Creative Europe – MEDIA Programme of the European Union. Festival partners include Series Mania in Lille, Film Festival Cologne, Seriencamp in Cologne and TV Drama Vision at Film Festival Gothenburg.

The great response to the call for entries once again shows that the training programme has struck a chord with the industry.

Throughout the programme, the participants will be supported by renowned Danish series writer and showrunner Jeppe Gjervig Gram (»Borgen«, »Follow the Money«) as Head of Programme.
The first on-site workshop offers an »Introduction to Showrunning in Europe«. It is co-led by Jeppe Gjervig Gram and German writer and showrunner Marianne Wendt (»Neumatt«, »Wer wir sind«) and takes place June 2 to 4 in Cologne, with case studies from three other successful European showrunners: Italian writer and showrunner Barbara Petronio and Cologne-based showrunners Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann will provide participants with detailed insights into their individual showrunner models and their genesis.

The »European Showrunner Training« takes place over six months both online and in three on-site modules in Cologne.

About the European Showrunner Programme

Accompanying the European Showrunner Training, the event series »European Showrunner Think Tank« is dedicated to discussing and defining the showrunner role in Europe. In addition, the »European Showrunner Network« provides a platform for continuous exchange between alumni and experts of the programme.

Upcoming Events

»Showrunning in Europe: Spotlight on Miikko Oikkonen« is the title of the next edition of the European Showrunner Think Tank. The session will take place at Seriencamp Conference on June 6 at 10 am in Cologne. The international co-production »Estonia« is Finland’s biggest drama series project to date. Using this ambitious project as an example, showrunner Miikko Oikkonen (»Bordertown«, »Helsinki Syndrome«) will give an insight into his showrunner model. The session will be moderated by Italian writer and showrunner Barbara Petronio.
