news / Press release
On 09 March, the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln invites you to an »Open House« from
11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at its premises in Cologne-Mülheim, Schanzenstr. 28.
Guests can gain lively insights into the study courses and further education programmes at the ifs: through work examples, workshops, open workshops, talks and film screenings - from the Bachelor's degree courses in Screenwriting, Editing Image & Sound, Cinematography, Creative Producing, Directing, Production Design and VFX & Animation to the Master's degree courses in Digital Narratives, Entertainment Producing, Film and Serial Storytelling.
Those interested can experience how directors work during a »staging exercise« with actors in the ifs studio. There are in-depth insights into the work of the screenplay department in the »Studio Exercise: Text and Scene Work« with Prof Magnus Vattrodt (German Television Award & Grimme Prize for »Die Wannseekonferenz«). You can look over the shoulders of students in open classes, e.g. in VFX & Animation or in the editing suites working on current projects.
In the cinema, film fans can watch short films by students on the big screen: real and animated. The high-end equipment with the Dolby-licensed Atmos sound system ensures an outstanding sound experience. Interested parties can experience how a complex sound mix is created in post-production using the example of award-winning short films.
Visitors can get active themselves in the writing workshop, in the hands-on camera workshop, when testing VR experiences and in the virtual studio with motion capturing and Games Egine. Guests can try out how artfully and sustainably reality is imitated in the production design area by designing wooden surfaces and marvelling at the newly built film set, a retro-futuristic research laboratory. Students from the VFX & Animation programme will present the development of elaborate animations and visual effects. The fledgling Master's degree programmes in Film and Entertainment Producing will also be presenting course content and projects from their first year.
The ifs would also like to enable more participation at the Open Day: About Me videos from the first inclusive workshop at the ifs in cooperation with casting network »Work and connect: Working with talents with disabilities« will be presented.
Access to the ifs is wheelchair accessible.
Students and graduates will talk about projects during and after their studies in moderated discussions. Visitors also have the opportunity to obtain comprehensive information in a personal conversation at any time.
Waffles and drinks await in between.
The detailed programme can be found here: www.filmschule.de
