STREAM, the network of 10 European training institutions, signs a common charter of values and objectives for series
Ensuring the future of European series through cooperation
Lille, 13 March 2025 – Led by Series Mania Institute, the STREAM network (Series Trainings Resources, Engagement, and Media), which brings together ten European institutions dedicated to training in series, is formalizing the signing of a common charter of values and objectives.
Launched in March 2024 at Series Mania Forum, the STREAM network includes ten training institutions: Den Danske Filmskole (Denmark), ECAM (Spain), ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln (Germany), Il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (Italy), La Fémis (France), Lodz Film School (Poland), MIDPOINT Institute (Czech Republic), Series Mania Institute (France), Serial Eyes/DFFB (Germany), and Torino Film Lab (Italy).
As part of their shared commitment to offering training programs tailored to the needs of professionals and future professionals in the series industry, the network is taking a new step by adopting a common charter of values and objectives. This charter, which will be signed on March 26, 2025, during Series Mania Forum, sends a clear message:
"With STREAM, we demonstrate that unity is strength. By bringing together major trainingprograms for series professionals across Europe, we create a critical mass that amplifies our collective impact. This dynamic network is driven by dedicated professionals who share a common ambition: to build the future of European series together and to champion a strong, innovative, and inclusive industry," says Pierre Ziemniak, Program Director at Series Mania Institute and coordinator of the STREAM network.
With over 1,500 professionals and students trained since these programs were launched—some dating back to 1997—the STREAM network represents a unique critical mass in Europe. This extensive territorial and educational network contributes to the emergence of talent behind many critically acclaimed recent series, such as Sentinelles (France), Veneno (Spain), Operation Sabre (Serbia), Becoming Karl Lagerfeld (Germany/France), and Davos (Switzerland). These successes illustrate the STREAM network's ability to support the next generation of European creators and
producers.
Shared Values
To continue supporting, encouraging, and promoting this creativity, all STREAM members commit to facilitating exchanges and cooperation among the network's programs and participants, based on:
● A strong European identity in the global series landscape.
● Recognition of serialized storytelling as a distinct narrative form.
● Commitment to an ethical and sustainable industry, fighting against discrimination and gender-based violence.
● Collaboration and knowledge-sharing to foster pedagogical innovation.
Common Objectives
● Strengthening cross-border collaboration between cultures and languages, especially in the context of co-productions.
● Sharing expertise on training methodologies, developing intercultural exchanges through joint programs and activities.
● Supporting European series professionals and projects that reflect the continent's diverse languages, cultures, lifestyles, and working methods.
A Strong and Productive Network
The numbers speak for themselves: every year, nearly 30 training programs for series professionals are organized within STREAM, bringing together over 250 professionals and students.
For example:
● Series Mania Institute offers 10 training programs per year, welcoming 130 participants.
● TorinoFilmLab and MIDPOINT Institute runs several training programs dedicated to series, bringing together talents from around the world.
● Serial Eyes is a well-established reference for professionals.
● Film schools such as La Fémis, ECAM, Il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln, Lodz Film School, and Den Danske Filmskole all run dedicated programs.
"MIDPOINT Institute is devoted to helping emerging and mid-career film and series professionals advance their projects and improve their craft." says Barbora Struss, CEO of MIDPOINT Institute (Czech Republic).
"SERIAL EYES builds a strong network for the next generation of European TV writers and trains their ability to work professionaly and productively with the industry.” says Katrin Merkel, Head of Studies of Serial Eyes (DFFB, Germany).
