This two-day-workshop is designed for experienced writers, producers, and directors who want to strengthen the comedy potential of their own projects through direct consultation and collaborative problem-solving. Led by acclaimed showrunner John Altschuler, the workshop replaces traditional lectures with an interactive development process in which participants' projects become the primary learning material.
Drawing on the development journeys of »Silicon Valley« and »King of the Hill«, John Altschuler illuminates how to take an idea from conception through production, then guides participants in applying those lessons directly to their own work. Working in a writers' room-style environment, participants will explore character, story, tone, dialogue, and series engines through case studies drawn from their own scripts and concepts. Through project presentations, collaborative development sessions, group discussions and tailored feedback on participants' own material, John will demonstrate how professional comedy writers identify problems, generate solutions and sharpen material.
The workshop also offers participants the opportunity to ask practical questions about development, production, collaboration, and the realities of running a successful comedy series or writing a successful comedy feature script.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will leave with concrete feedback, fresh creative strategies and a clear roadmap for the next stage of their project's development.
