Winterberg. Snow and skiers from the Netherlands. Hotel manager Sandra, 44, seems to have found her destiny in her cosy marriage and her day-to-day work. Until Joos, 33, is the only single person to check into the Romantik Hotel.
The charming Dutchman is on the run from the Amsterdam drug mafia and offers himself as a seasonal labourer. While he sells cocaine to the guests as a bellboy, the unknowing Sandra takes an increasing liking to him. Although she is a specialist in romance, she has very little of it herself. Joos is also plagued by lovesickness and it is not long before the two end up in bed. The affair, but also her daughter Leonie, 14, are a wake-up call for Sandra. Her illusion of romance begins to crumble.
But before it comes to a marital quarrel with her husband Thomas, 45, two dorky small-town policemen are already standing in the lobby looking for Joos. They sense the coup of a lifetime and chase after him down the piste. Just like two Amsterdam mobsters and the cuckolded husband. While the mafia and the police block each other, the conflict between Sandra, Joos and Thomas culminates in a shoot-out in a panorama restaurant. Sandra does what she should have done a long time ago: She frees herself completely and torches her wedding dress.
