Ashes on my Head

A tranquil suburb at Christmas time. The Jansen family - Anne, Pieter and their two children Emily and Leon - are part of the village idyll.

But beneath the surface of their functionality lie unresolved conflicts that ignite like a match on a winter evening.  After five years of drug addiction, eldest son Fabian suddenly returns and wants to pick up where he left off: pretend nothing ever happened, win back his girlfriend, have back the time that was taken from him.

But life is not that simple. The family reacts differently to the reunion. Whether they like it or not, they all have to deal with Fabian: Anne, who fears he might reveal her ongoing affair with a work colleague and thus threaten her marriage. Leon, who sees his big brother as the wrong role model and has started selling drugs. And Emily, who wants nothing more than to leave the town as soon as possible.

When everything threatens to collapse under a mountain of lies, only Fabian can hold the family together. But to do so, he must finally face up to his past and the responsibility for his life.
