The Bergisches Land in the 1920s.
The Protestant lay preacher Caspar lives with his son Friedel in a remote house in the forest. When the life-hungry Hannah enters the men's lives, which are characterized by humble submission, their religious worldview is called into question. What begins as a tender love story ultimately ends in disaster.
