I love to feel in scripts the energy that the film will carry. It's the beginning of a new story and maybe a whole new world. The most exciting moment is then "reading" in the raw footage what story the shot images really want to tell. The awakening of dramaturgy and rhythm is what always fascinates me about editing. It's that moment when it feels like the film becomes a part of me or I become a part of it, when I feel the power that films can have. It's as if the protagonists are sitting next to me in the editing room, telling their story together with me. I'm especially thrilled by the moments in screenings when the audience feels this power and we realize that the film triggers something, whether it's a laugh, a cry, or even an indignant snort. Because that's what we're all fighting for again and again.
