How to entertain: »Masterclass Entertainment« at the ifs

  • Professional training in non-fictional entertainment

  • Prime Video is industry partner

A new year of the »Masterclass Entertainment« at the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln will start in June 2024. The compact further training programme on non-fictional entertainment is aimed at young creative talents in the entertainment industry from editorial and production who want to expand their practical and theoretical knowledge and gain further qualifications for creative management tasks in non-fictional entertainment.
Over a period of six months (June - November 2024), the »Masterclass Entertainment« offers compact, part-time intensive training in which core creative skills for an entertainment industry in transition are taught. This training programme focuses on storytelling, format development and creative leadership - key aspects of creative leadership and innovation in a changing market. The meaningful use of AI in the creative process will also be discussed and tested. In addition, networking among participants and with the industry will be promoted. The three three-day face-to-face modules at the ifs are supplemented by online sessions on specialist topics and genre trends, exclusive industry insights and case studies as well as networking events.
The application phase runs until 13 May.

As a cooperation partner from the industry, Prime Video Germany supports the programme both financially and in terms of content with experts such as Volker Neuenhoff, Head of Entertainment German Originals at Amazon MGM Studios, the film and TV production and development department of Prime Video. In addition, Prime Video's funding enables the awarding of scholarships.

Philip Pratt, Head of German Originals, Amazon MGM Studios: "We at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios are very pleased about the continuation of the content collaboration with the ifs as part of the 'Masterclass Entertainment' and the associated trust in our expertise. We have been able to further expand our entertainment offering in recent months and offer our customers innovative and creative non-fictional entertainment such as The Teddy Teclebrhan Show or the reality show The 50 alongside the successful comedy series LOL: Last One Laughing. The initiative pursues the common goal of promoting young creative talent and thus strengthening the entire entertainment industry."

Jennifer Mival, ifs Professor of Entertainment Producing: "The 6-month Masterclass Entertainment is a unique opportunity for anyone who wants to prepare for the future in the areas of creative leadership, storytelling and format development. Thanks to our cooperation partner Prime Video, who supports us with expertise and insights and makes scholarships possible."

In addition to ifs professor Jennifer Mival and Volker Neuenhoff (Head of Entertainment Deutsche Originals, Amazon MGM Studios), other prominent players from the entertainment industry will teach the masterclass.

The ifs is responding to the high pressure to innovate and the great economic and cultural importance of entertainment production, not least in NRW, with its further education programme in entertainment.
The ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln has been offering further education programmes in various formats in the field of non-fictional entertainment since 2019. In 2021, the first Master's programme in Entertainment Producing in German-speaking countries followed at the ifs under the direction of Professor Jennifer Mival.

Founded in 2000, the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln is now one of the leading training centres for audiovisual media in Germany. Its aim is to offer film and media professionals a high-quality, future-orientated education that closely combines theory and practice. Its location in the film and media centre of Cologne particularly characterises its claim to be close to the industry. The ifs is owned by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW.
