Nico has always had a plan. For example, he knew early on what he wanted to do after school: study medicine. As he prepares for his A-levels, however, his life is soon characterised by an emotional challenge: his mother is diagnosed with breast cancer.

Between moments of normality, when he goes out with his girlfriend Aylin or sets off on family outings, Nico's responsibility grows. He accompanies Brigitte to medical appointments, supports her in her treatment and has to learn to harmonise his own wishes with his mother's needs.

Originally, he never intended to deal with the future shape of his mother's breasts, and he has to learn to deal with this. He also realises that the disease does not follow a plan. The effect of the chemotherapy fluctuates and with it his mother's well-being.

‘Brüste umständehalber abzugeben’ (AT) paints a sensitive picture of love, loss and growing up. It is a film about an adolescent who learns through his mother's diagnosis that you can make plans, but that life will always thwart these plans with the unforeseeable.
