Farewell 2.0

It is quiet in the house. There is no more singing. Dancing just as little. But Luisa (36) loved to do it. Preferably with Emma (4), her daughter. But Emma can no longer do it. Emma is dead.

Since then, Luisa has repressed the loss. The subject is taboo at home, and to the sorrow of her family, she is only an empty shell of herself. All life seems to have escaped from the house. Only dark borders on the walls recall where pictures of a happy family once hung.

Luisa has rejected all conventional mourning aids, which is why Torsten is willing to introduce her to the idea of an unconventional form of coping with grief. Virtual reality is supposed to enable Luisa to say goodbye to her Emma, which she has been denied until now. But at first she doesn't want to know anything about this either, until Luisa's continual repression threatens to lose her remaining family in this world as well. Reluctantly, she agrees to the proposal.

In order to create the digital image of Emma, the family has to give the team of designers intimate insights into their old family life - a painful portrayal of past, intact times. But for the first time since the loss, Luisa is able to engage with Emma again - to look at photos of her, to talk about her, to enter her nursery. Gradually, anticipation develops for the upcoming reunion. And suddenly she is standing in virtual space. Facing her daughter. Emma.
