Frame of Mind

In the near future, a woman in her late thirties wanders through a dark room, talking to a male voice who accompanies her daily. As they chat, she tries to reminisce about memories from different periods of her past life. In a non-linear narrative, we experience her fragmented memories filling the dark room, which in the end, we realize is a smart daycare for people with early-onset dementia.

Director’s Note

Frame of Mind is a short film shot with a 360° camera, designed to be experienced with VR goggles. The subject matter I worked on in this story is the fleeting nature of memories, and I contextualized it in a dystopian near future where people with dementia seek treatment through smart daycare centers and virtual caregivers. I wanted to visualize the protagonist's subjective memories through different image planes in an immersive space. Therefore, I chose to experiment with 360° film as a medium and virtual reality as the reception apparatus, to tell a story in an omnidirectional, layered space. The film aspires to invite the spectator into the mind of the protagonist, where memories are frameless and surrounding.
