In a dilapidated laboratory, Dr. Liguster is experimenting on a biomechanical plant creature she calls “Flo”.
Driven by the hope of gaining scientific recognition, she plants a tendril in his stomach that connects him to a gigantic “mother plant”. To her surprise, Flo comes to life and shows childlike affection - a reaction that Dr. Liguster cannot tolerate. To suppress his feelings, she gives him injections, but Flo increasingly develops a consciousness of his own. When he is torn between anger, pain and empathy, he makes a drastic decision: he separates himself from the vine - and thus from life. Dr. Liguster stays behind, having failed her own experiment.
