ALEJANDRO MATHÉ was born in Ibiza to a German mother and an Andalusian father. He spent his summers with his grandparents in Germany, who shaped his love of theatre, art and dark stories. In 2023, he graduated from the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln with a degree in film directing. His short films have been screened at festivals such as BIFFF and Camerimage. His graduation film, EL MÁRTIR, was nominated twice for the First Steps Award and won the Grand Prix du Jury at the Poitiers Film Festival, amongst other accolades.
His debut feature, INVASIVE ARTEN, is being produced by Color of May and has already received script and pre-production funding from the Filmstiftung NRW. With this project, he took part in the Jump-In programme in Poitiers in 2025 and was selected for the Villa Rothschild writers’ residency in Cannes in 2026. The film is currently in the funding stage and is scheduled to be shot in autumn 2027. His work frequently explores queer realities, characters in extreme situations and the grotesque. Alejandro lives in Cologne.
