My brother used to talk a lot, so I can listen well today. This quality helps me enormously when I'm editing. Seeing and hearing correctly often reveals the truthfulness of the material. For me, editing is looking for many little sparks in this material to light a fire in the viewer. You can let the fire blaze, but you can also lower it to a gentle glow if you want. When is it bright and warm, when dark and cold? Editing subconsciously sets impulses and guides the viewer through the story. This play with fire fascinates me.
