It has happened more than once that I have lost something in the cinema. And I don't mean my wallet or my glasses case! With good films, and I mean this in a positive sense, a part of me remains in the cinema. There is more to experience in films than interesting characters, great images and exciting plots, namely the moment when I as a viewer am "picked up" - the audience's identification with the story. My fascination with filmmaking and storytelling lies in works that establish just that between themselves and people. Making things visible that are not apparent at first glance. Getting the audience to surrender and lose themselves a bit. And so it happens again and again that we admire figures on the screen for qualities that we lack. So we are a bit like them for a while, even if we then leave that part of ourselves behind at the exit.
