Lucky to be away

Malki, a young Israeli woman, moved from Tel Aviv to live with her German boyfriend Laurens a few weeks ago.

She doesn't know the language and feels trapped within her four walls, like a goldfish in an aquarium. A trip to the swimming pool is supposed to bring some change - but there she immediately becomes acquainted with a questionable but typical German regulation: Bathing caps are compulsory. Malki's search for a swimming cap turns into an unexpectedly absurd odyssey, during which she meets Abdel, a Syrian refugee with a bizarre but original hobby. Their longing for friendship, and being strangers in a new country bring the two closer together. A bit of violence. Song. Spontaneous dancing and dogs jumping through hoops. A look at our quirky German society.
