Social VR AI Experience

Vision Statement:
To provide social VR users with companionship in lonely times, we prompt an AI to be empathetic while serving engaging conversations.
By offering a compelling activity that is independent of user count, the QUANTUM BAR can motivate visitors to stay online and therefore extend concurrent user numbers of social VR platforms. With our festival installation, we intend to educate the public about NLP AI's current capabilities and to create awareness about the ethical implications of AI development.

Synopsis:
To offer social VR users an enticing activity - even if none of their human friends can be found online - we have brought an artificial intelligence into the metaverse as an avatar who is empathetic and always happy to hear what's on the users' minds. Situated in an oversized quantum computer floating in space, our QUANTUM BAR opens for lounge evenings with up to ten visitors in the Neos metaverse. Its bartender Quantum offers intriguing conversations in human language and has an open ear for his visitors' ideas and inquiries - just like a bartender does in a real-life bar. While sentiment detection is used to steer lights and colors in the bar, Quantum serves chats of up to ten minutes and gifts the user with a summary card to mark the end of the experience.

As the AI language model we use to steer our bartender's voice - GPT-3 by OpenAI - provides such a life-like conversational quality that it often can't be distinguished from a real human, we have followed the principle of honest anthropomorphism in Quantum's design by having him appear as a robot who discloses his nature as responsible AI, so that users won't be confused or feel manipulated.

With artificial intelligence becoming ever more capable, ethical challenges of battling algorithmic biases and minimizing the risk of malicious training outcomes increase. By facilitating a life-like social interaction with our GPT-3 driven bartender, we hope to be able to educate the public about the current capabilities of natural language processing AIs and to provide the knowledge needed to positively influence the evolution of artificial intelligence.

To create awareness about AI, we thus look forward to showcasing the QUANTUM BAR not only in the technophile space of social VR but also at festivals and conferences that appeal to wider audiences.
