What if dying could be a cozy adventure? Or a storytelling game?
Why Not Play Until the End is a journaling game/web interactive that invites people facing the end-of-life to tell stories and author their own narrative legacy.
It reimagines the end-of-life experience as a cozy river journey, with storytelling companions who help you return to the point where you once began.
The premise is based on Dojiang Wang’s experience of accompanying her dying mother and meeting a group of hospice volunteers who join this journey.
Developed through research-creation, the project is part of an arts-based social intervention to explore how interactive digital narratives can support people at the end of life and their loved ones in coming to a greater acceptance of dying.
The prototype is developed using JavaScript and designed for low cognitive and physical demands.
