In Loving Memory: Aram Bagh

In Loving Memory: Aram Bagh is a VR narrative experience set in late 1990s Karachi, Pakistan. Users embody a woman returning to her childhood home after the death of her father. Through exploration, interaction, and environmental storytelling, the experience unfolds as an intimate journey through grief, memory, and remembrance.

The experience begins in an apartment overlooking Aram Bagh. Inside, the space is filled with traces of a life once lived — cassette tapes, family photographs, aging furniture, handwritten notes, and the quiet clutter of a lived-in home. As users move through the apartment at their own pace, fragments of memory gradually surface through voice-over narration, sound, and interaction with everyday objects.

A VHS tape becomes the central interactive device, rewinding moments while suddenly transforming the space into a surreal memoryscape. The experience eventually opens into Aram Bagh itself, where flying a kite becomes a symbolic gesture of release and acceptance.

Blending autobiographical memory with culturally specific details of 1990s Karachi, the project explores how VR can create intimate and emotionally embodied forms of storytelling.
