On 21 September, the ifs is offering a professional training course on the subject of colour grading – with the internationally renowned colour scientist Dr. Charles Poynton and senior colourist Laurens Orij.
The workshop »Applied Colour Science for Film Production« deals with essential basics and important current topics of colour science for film production. The English-language course is aimed at colourists, camera operators, visual effects artists and supervisors, digital imaging technicians, DI engineers and mastering specialists. Dr. Charles Poynton (CA) is a specialist in the physics, mathematics and technology of digital colour imaging systems. He is a co-founder of the picture resolution standard for HDTV: over thirty years ago he introduced the "square pixel" for HD and digital cinema with the pixel number 1080. In 1993 he was awarded the David Sarnoff Gold Medal of the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers). Laurens Orij is Senior Colourist (including »All We Imagine as Light« Cannes Grand Prize 2024; »Close« Oscar nomination and Cannes Grand Prix 2023; »Monos« Sundance World Cinema Special Jury Award 2020).
